I’m Caro Tuts, an illustrator from Sint-Truiden, Belgium. Since I was a little kid, I want to become an illustator/ comic artist. That’s a dream I want to make come true. Other than comics, I also make illustrations for childrens magazines, or (childrens) books, even for non-fiction purposes.
I draw both traditional and digital and I love to work with watercolor, copic markers, color pencils and Photoshop and my Cintiq 13HD tablet. I draw every kind of genre, but I like horror-themed things the most. The opposite of that, happy and colorfull things, are also not unknown for me. My strongest point are humans, but I’m still practising on animals, lifeless objects (still life) and environments.

How do I work: If you want me to make an illustration for you, there are some points I need to know. Here’s a list of what I really need to know to start drawing:
- First of all, for what purpose is the illustration? (magazine, book cover, …)
- Which medium (traditional or digital) and size (A3, A4, A5, 300/600 dpi, …)?
- How many characters?
- What kind of background?
- When is the deadline?
After that I start with the illustration. I have different ways of working for traditional and digital drawings. The process for digital illustrations follows next steps:
- First, I make a couple of sketches and show this to you. This includes composition, colors, light, etc… You can choose which one you prefer the most.
- Then I make the lineart and I roughly color the illustration. I also show you this because it can always happen that I misunderstood something or you changed your mind.
- When the illustration is done, I send it to you in the preferred dpi size.
The process for traditional illustrations follows next steps:
- First, I make a couple of sketches and show this to you. You can choose which one you prefer the most.
- Then I roughly color the sketch in Photoshop. Here I can see which colors I need to use. I also show you this.
- After that, I ink the sketch and color it in which medium you want.
- When the illustration is done, I scan it and send it to you in the prefered dpi size.
